Vice-President Venkaiah Naidusupports critically-ill girl in Nellore

Nellore :In a commendable gesture, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu came to the rescue of a young woman in Nellore who has been suffering from a rare genetic disorder 'Fanconi Anaemia' which requires bone marrow transplantation.

Venkaiah has organised donations from his family members, relatives and friends to the tune of Rs 18 lakh for treatment of the patient.

Divya Sree is a postgraduate in computer applications and her father, Chenchu Kumar, is a conductor in RTC at Sullurpeta depot. Family members approached the CMC Hospital in Vellore where the doctors suggested performing allogeneic Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplant (PBSCT) immediately pointing out that there is total infection to her lungs.

As the treatment costs over Rs 25 lakh, the hapless father wrote a letter to the Vice-President seeking his financial support and explaining about the condition of his daughter and the poor financial resources.

Venkaiah spoke to Chenchu Kumar over phone and asked him to wait for some time. Subsequently the Vice-President ensured that Rs 3 lakh from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund, Rs 75,000 from V-P's own office, Rs 1 lakh from his wife Ushamma, Rs 1 lakh each from his son and daughter Harshavardhan and Deepa Venkat and Rs 1 lakh from Swarna Bharat Trust was immediately mobilised.

Venkaiah's friends B Subba Reddy (Vamsiram Builders) gave Rs 5 lakh, Ravindra Sannareddy of Sri City offered Rs 2.25 lakh, C Venkateswar Reddy (Aparna Constructions) gave Rs 2 lakh while C Subba Reddy of (Ceebros constructions) gave Rs 1 lakh. Divya Sree and Chenchu Kumar thanked the Vice-President and his family members for their humanitarian gesture.
