Nellore: Minister for Water Resources Dr P Anil Kumar Yadav said the government is distributing house sites to the poor irrespective of their political affiliation. Addressing a programme at Bhagat Singh Colony on Friday, he said the administration was handing over 1,73,816 house sites in the district and 57,000 houses within the city limits.

Describing the distribution of 30.75 lakh house site pattas on a single day as a 'historic' step, he said houses would also be constructed on the sites handed over to the beneficiaries. He criticised that the previous government had sanctioned 2 lakh houses in the last five-year term and failed to complete them.

"The house site or the house is property of the family and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy donating them to women of the state. Still, women who failed to get the house sites can get them within 90 days if they submit their application at Grama Sachivalayam. Now, the Chief Minister is handing over the houses already constructed at Rs 1 to the beneficiaries," said Anil Kumar. In Nellore, around 14,000 TIDCO houses are being distributed, he added.

He said 15.70 lakh houses were being constructed in the first phase and constructing 7,617 houses in Janardhan Reddy Nagar in the city for the poor. He said they were also planning to construct Penna Bund with Rs 70 crore which prevents flash floods into the colonies close to the river.

District Collector K V N Chakradhar Babu said it took around 8 years for shifting 30 lakh people in China earlier and now, the Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had distributed 30.75 lakh house sites in a single day. He said they had identified 2,679 acres of land and were distributing 1,73,816 house sites to the poor.

He also said groundbreaking has also been laid for the construction of 53,000 houses on Friday. Municipal Commissioner K Dinesh Kumar, RDO SK Hussain Saheb and others were present.
