Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) has decided to collect feedback over water supply in the city through interactive voice response system (IVRS). For the first time, the civic body is going into people through IVRS for collecting information. Recently Municipal and Urban Development officials suggested to MCT officials to collect stakeholders' opinions on water supply through IVRS. The municipal officials randomly will call to households through available contact mobile numbers on water supply in the city.

On the basis of IVRS survey, officials in future will make changes in water supply at wards level. Presently, to meet summer water supply demand, MCT engineering wing made arrangements to draw extra water from Telugu Ganga summer water storage tank Kilasagiri near Srikalahasti. From there water is supplied to Tirupati via Mangalam water filter. The civic body is drawing some more water from Kalyani Dam to supply western part of the city.

Officials also made arrangements to dig 50 borewells in the city with MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy constituency development fund of Rs 1 crore. In addition, civic body arranged 19 water tankers to supply water to residents at slums. Recently merged panchayat areas like MR Palli, Srikrishna Nagar, SV Nagar and Srinivasapuram are facing severe water scarcity.

Commissioner PS Girisha is monitoring the situation daily with officials.
