MP Margani Bharat Ram requests Centre to increase flights to Rajamahendravaram Airport

Rajamahendravaram: Rajamahendravaram Airport which is located between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam needs immediate attention of Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for its overall development and increase of flight operations to cater to the needs of air passengers, mainly relating to twin Godavari districts.

Speaking to 'The Hans India', MP Margani Bharat Ram said that he submitted a memorandum to Union Ministry of Civil Aviation secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola in New Delhi with necessary information.

He underlined the need to take up development works such as construction of new terminal, bays etc to cater to the future needs. Airports Authority studied the market trend and passenger traffic and operation of flights to various parts of the country.

As part of it, a project report was prepared with an estimated cost

of Rs 133 crore and out of which only Rs 15 crore sanctioned and Rs 55 lakh was released.

The runway was expanded to 3,125 metres for landing of air buses and wide bodied crafts for cargo purpose. 1,400 PAX capacity terminal needed in addition to 225 PAX terminal, he said in the memorandum.

The MP further said that he requested Civil Aviation ministry to operate one stop services between Rajamahendraram- Hyderabad-New Delhi, Rajamahendravaram-Hyderabad-Mumbai and Rajamahendravaram-Kolkata- Bhubaneswar. He also mentioned the need of connecting services to Shirdi, Tirupati, Bangalore, Goa and Visakhapatnam under UDAN scheme immediately, which is having necessary potentiality.
