Load Test on Vijayawada Kanaka Durga flyover to be held for next three days

Vijayawada: The long-cherished dream of the people of Vijayawada is going to come true as the Kanakadurga flyover built in the city is ready for the launch. The pending works of Kanakadurga flyover have been completed while the authorities will conduct flyover ability tests from Thursday afternoon until the evening of the 15th. Traffic restrictions were imposed in the city for the flyover 'load test'.

Authorities said there would be restrictions on vehicular traffic from Kummaripalam to Vinayaka Gudi. "Heavy vehicles and other vehicles coming towards Vijayawada should use Ibrahimpatnam-Gollapudi-Sitara Center-Kabela-CVR flyover-Inner Ring Road-Pipe Road Junction-Ramavarapadu Ring Road over National Highway 65," said Srinivasan. Vehicles heading towards Hyderabad should go through Krishnalanka Police Station, Police Control Room, Panja Center Chittinagar Tunnel Gollapudi Ibrahimpatnam. He appealed to the people to co-operate as the sanctions would remain in force till the evening of the August 15th.

Authorities have already decided to conduct a trial run after the 20th of this month on the back of 98 per cent completion of construction of the Kanakadurga flyover. Prior to that the 'load‌ test' process has to be completed. As part of this, the load test will continue for 48 hours from Thursday afternoon. 24 lorries are filled with sand and concrete with a total weight of 684 tons at a rate of 28.5 tons per lorry is placed between the spans on the bridge. Any errors will be corrected after 48 hours. Roads and buildings quality control Superintending Engineer John Moshe said that the vehicles would be allowed as part of the trial run after the 20th of this month after making sure there were no problems.
