Kurnool: Tension prevailed at Sangala village under Chippagiri police station limits on Wednesday when some residents of village, opposed entry of returned migrants, who were discharged from quarantine centre. According to sources, the villagers from Sangala, who were stranded in Mumbai, were returned to Kurnool and the district administration sent them to 14 days quarantine as per the protocol guidelines before allowing them to go to their houses.

After completion of 14 days quarantine, all the villagers were tested negative. As a result, all villagers were discharged from quarantine centre and the district administration accorded permission to them to go to their houses. But some villagers, on learning about their entry, obstructed them and picked up an argument.

In no time, the argument turned violent and the both the groups resorted to fisticuffs. In the attack, two persons, Sekhar and Giri, sustained serious injuries in the hands of quarantine discharged persons. The injured were immediately rushed to Guntakal hospital for treatment. It is also learnt that 17 persons in both groups have sustained minor injuries.

The Chippagiri police, on learning about the incident, rushed to the village and took stock of the situation. Alur Circle Inspector V Bhaskar said there was some misunderstanding between the people that has resulted in attack on each other. Though it is a minor issue, a case under relevant sections was filed and took up investigation, stated V Bhaskar.

The villagers are blaming the government officials for not creating awareness among the migrants being sent to quarantine centres. Due to lack of awareness, the residents are fearing that they would be affected with the coronavirus.
