Kakinada: MP, MLA thank CM for Disha Act
Kakinada: MP Vanga Geetha said that Andhra Pradesh was the first state in India in bringing the Disha Act for ensuring the safety and security of women in the society.
While speaking at the MLA's camp office here on Sunday, she thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for bringing the historic Act and expressed the hope that it would deter anti-social elements from assaulting women and outraging their modesty.
She said that as per the Act, the accused will be arrested followed by completion of investigation and judgment from courts within three weeks. Geetha said that State government should nominate a Sessions or Additional Sessions Judge or a member of Andhra Pradesh Judicial Service and also appoint a special public prosecutor, preferably a woman public prosecutor, to conduct cases.
Kakinada City MLA Dwarampudi Chandrashekhar Reddy said that Chief Ministser Y S Jagan fulfilled his promises made during the walkathon before the 2019 general elections. The Disha Act launched by the State government has become a role model for the country, he added. Corporators, YSRCP leaders and others were present on the occasion.
