IRCS sets target to collect one lakh units of blood

Srikakulam: The district unit of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) annual general body meeting has set a target to collect one lakh units of blood to overcome blood scarcity in the district. Speaking at the IRCS annual general body meeting held here on Friday, Additional Joint Collector P Rajanikantha Rao said that one lakh units of blood was required every year to serve needy in emergency in the district.

He appealed to all government officers and staff to come forward to donate blood. He also reminded the blood donation camps organised by irrigation department officials and staff in the district. Rajanikantha Rao requested the members of IRCS to motivate youth by conducting awareness camps frequently at all degree, PG and professional colleges over the importance of donating blood.

The meeting approved the district annual revenue and expenditure plans. The meeting also elected unanimously the existing chairman of IRCS P Jaganmohan Rao as chairman.

Speaking on the occasion, Jagan Mohan Rao explained that IRCS Srikakulam unit formed with Rs 3,200 bank balance and now, it has Rs 25 crore worth assets in the district which are being used for service of poor and needy. IRCS senior members B Malleswara Rao, N Appanna, CVN Murthy, N H Satyannarayana, K Someswara Rao, MBG Naidu and K Srinivas participated in the meeting.
