Vizianagaram: State Bank of India has planned to transform Gunkalam village in Vizianagaram district as complete digital village. With this, the people of the village won't use any currency for their daily expenditure, and they would use only biometric machines for payments and receipts of cash.

Participating in a programme organised at Gunkalam, SBI Chief General Manager Mani Palvesan said they were planning to transform the village as 100th digital village by completely banning cash transactions.

He said "We have encouraged public to open bank accounts and at free of cost we have distributed 88 biometric machines, which are linked with their bank accounts. From tomorrow onwards every payment like milk, electric power bill, vegetables, cable bill, purchasing of groceries and medicines would be through those biometric machines only. If anybody wants cash, they can withdraw Rs .2,000 from the machine.

This would be the pioneer in the State and we should encourage the digital transactions for reducing black money and malpractices too. DRO J Venkata Rao said it was very easy to adopt digital payment method and it's good for society. SBI DGM K Satyanarayana Prasad stated that Gunkalam would be the pioneer in this aspect and many villages in this district would walk in the footsteps of this village.
