Graduate MLC polls register 65.40%
Kakinada: In total, 1,92,137 voters exercised their franchise in the Graduate MLC elections of East and West Godavari districts held on Friday. This is 13 per cent higher than the previous election, said RO and East Godavari Collector Karthikeya Mishra.
Addressing media at Collectorate here on Saturday, he said that out of 2,93,794 voters,1,92,137 voters exercised their franchise in the polls registering a 65.40 per cent.
The poll percentage was recorded as 52 per cent in previous graduate MLC elections, the collector said. The Collector also said that the district wise polling stood at 65.22 per cent in East Godavari and 65.65 per cent in West Godavari.
The ballot boxes of both the districts have been kept in strongroom under tight security and the counting of votes will commence on Tuesday at 8 am at Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada.
Necessary arrangements are being made at counting centre at RMC, the collector said.
Speaking on the issue of conduct of general elections on April 11, the collector said that nominations process will conclude by 3 pm on March 25 for both Lok Sabha and Assembly polls and the candidates who filed nominations by Friday were asked to submit relevant documents by 3 pm on Monday if they did not do so at the time of filing their nominations, he clarified.
