Govt committed to welfare of weavers: Collector

Kadapa: District Collector V Vijaya Rama Raju said that the government is committed to improving the living standards of weavers’ community by introducing various welfare schemes.

The collector along with state Padmasali Corporation Chairman Jinka Vijaya Lakshmi, National Handlooms United Forum (NHUF) convener A Mallikarjuna participated in the 9th National Handloom Day jointly organised by Handloom Welfare and Jowli Welfare departments here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that the government headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been extending financial support to the weavers’ families each Rs 24,000 under the YSR Nethanna Nestham.

In view of encouraging the handloom profession, the government also provided marketing facility through Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (APCO) in all districts. The collector recalled that once the Handloom industry has registered 25 percent growth rate in the world Grass Domestic Product (GDP).

The Collector also stressed on the need to encourage the weavers’ community by purchasing Handloom cloths through APCO in the interest of bringing past glory to the profession.

State Devanga Corporation Chairman R Narasimhulu, APCO DM V Varaprasad and Jowli Welfare Association AD V Harikrishna were present.
