Government keen to educate tribals, asserts Minister P Pushpa Sreevani

Buttayigudem: Minister for Tribal Welfare P Pushpa Sreevani has said lack of education was the main reason for prevalence of backwardness among the tribals in the State.

Reviewing implementation of the tribal welfare schemes at the KR Puram Integrated Tribal Development Agency, the Minister announced that more than 50 per cent funds would be spent on education of the tribals. Tribals have reposed a lot of confidence in government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, she said adding that the government would live up to their expectations. The Chief Minister has decided to set up a tribal university, she said.

The Minister informed that the Chief Minister had taken a decision to set up super-specialty hospitals at seven places in tribal areas in a bid to provide quality medical care to them. An engineering college would also be established for the tribals.

The government had earmarked Rs 4,900 crore in the budget for tribal welfare. While the earlier TDP government had done a lot of injustice to tribals, the present government has allotted more funds to show its love for tribals, the minister added.
