Kurnool: The BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh reiterated the need to develop Rayalaseema region. Addressing a meeting organised by Rayalaseema Hakkula Aikya Vedika at a private function hall here on Saturday, the MP said that the State government must not focus only on development of Amaravati region.

He advised Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to fulfil the dreams of his father and former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy to Rayalaseema districts. He mentioned Gundrevula reservoir, lifeline of Kurnool city, was grounded while he was Minister.

But the Chief Minister cancelled the project for unknown reasons. Venkatesh has extended the support to the student movement currently taking place in Rayalaseema demanding the High Court and capital city to the region. "We will support any movement which is peaceful and intends to develop Seema region," he said.

The MP claimed that the BJP-led NDA government has plans to develop the region in all aspects. Regarding the Polavaram project, he said that the government must take up the construction on a war-footing as funds from Central government are being released. Moreover, he asked the Jagan government not to build ornate buildings in the name of constructing a Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and a High Court.

Responding to a query about the special package to the region, he said that a Rayalaseema general body meeting would be held soon to decide on the matter.
