Denizens fume over overflowing manholes in Tirupati
Tirupati: Over flowing of underground drainage (UGD) pipes and manholes are irritating the residents of Pilgrim City and causing problems to municipal authorities. Every day civic body officials are receiving more than 10 complaints over overflowing of manholes.
The overflow of the sewage manholes emanates stink and people have to inhale unbearable bad odour. Many people face hardships to cross the roads near overflowing manholes.
Main cause of frequent overflowing of UGD manholes in the city is structural damage of the pipes. MCT had laid underground drainage pipe line 25 years ago. The UGD pipelines were damaged in old city localities like Koralgunta, Bhavaninagar, Kapilatheertham Road, Chenna Reddy Colony, Chinnabazar Street, Kotha Veedhi , Kotakommala Street and Vinayaka Nagar areas.
Presently officials are examining the possibility to lay new pipelines where the pipes are leaking. Already Under Amruth scheme, MCT officials have been laying the new drainage pipelines in newly merging areas in the corporation limits like MR Palli, Jeevakona and Timminaidu Palem areas.
On the same lines, Old City residents are demanding the civic body officials to lay the new pipeline replacing old UGD pipeline. Mean while, MCT engineering wing set up a special sanitary staff team to clear the choking waste in manholes. Though the sanitary staff are continuously clearing the manholes blockades, the problems are occurring repeatedly due to uneven alignment of pipes in many localities.
