CM hailed for enacting Disha Act to protect women, children

MP Vanga Geeta opines similar Acts should be introduced across the country to stop crimes against women and children

Kakinada: Kakinada MP and Parliamentary Standing Committee member on Home Affairs Vanga Geeta said that she would appeal to President Ram Nath Kovind to implement Disha Act-2019 in the entire country.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, she thanked Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for introducing historical Act Disha in Andhra Pradesh to protect women.

Geetha said that the Legislative Assembly unanimously passed two Bills, Andhra Pradesh Disha Act - AP Special Courts for Specified Offences against Women and Children Act 2019, and AP Disha Act - Criminal Law (AP Amendment) Act 2019.

In addition to the special courts, she pointed out that the Chief Minister had also set up 'Women and Children Offenders Register', in electronic form which would have complete details of the persons involved in specified offences.

Special police teams at district level would be constituted headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, she added.

Geetha said that CM Jagan had set an example on how to ensure safety and security in the State by enacting Disha Act.

She said the Chief Minister had introduced the Act to protect children and women. If children and women are harassed through social media, punishment will be severe.

Geetha said more Acts should be introduced to severely punish those indulging in crimes against women and children.

She pointed out that Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu and other leaders expressed happiness over the AP government enacting Disha Act-2019.
