Awareness about organ donation organised in GGH
Kurnool: The doctors of the Government General Hospital (GGH) observed Organ Donation Day here on Tuesday. Addressing on the occasion, GGH Superintendent Dr Chandrasekhar has said that Organ Donation Day is observed every year on August 13. He stated that there is a fear in the society about organ donation due to lack of awareness.
The aim of this day is to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation and motivate people to donate organs after death, he said and added that donated organs like heart, liver, kidneys, lungs and pancreas would be used for transplanting them in another person.
He made an appeal to the private hospitals to inform the government hospital authorities about the braindead patients. Very soon, we are going to perform live kidney transplantation, said GGH Deputy Superintendent Dr Bhagawan. He mentioned that the GGH would take the help of Dr Surya Prakash, former NIMS Professor and Dr AVS Reddy, Osmania Hospital for live kidney transplantation.
Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr Prabhakar Reddy has said that Kurnool GGH has been sanctioned permission to perform heart and lung transplantation surgeries.
