AP Local bodies to go under special officers rule after July 3

Vizianagaram: Special officers will be appointed to take care of administration in local bodies like mandal parishads and zilla parishads in the state as the tenure of those institutions is going to be expired on July 3.

Thirteen ZPs and 660 mandal parishads would come under the administration of special officers after the expiry of tenure of their elected bodies.

Already, the gram panchayatis have been under the governance of special officers for the past six months.

As of now, 12 zilla parishads and around 480 mandal parishads are headed by TDP. Now the tenure of ZPs would expire on July 4 and for mandal parishads on July 3.

The panchayat raj department has to hand over the administration to special officers to provide continuous services to the people.

According to information, the district collectors would be made as person in-charge for zilla parishads and district level officers like deputy directors, joint directors would be the special officers of mandal parishads.

The same administrative structure will be in force till the new governing body is formed after elections. The government is also said to be gearing up to conduct elections as soon as possible.

Even the mandal officers are preparing the electoral rolls.

A senior officer said, "The government is going to appoint special officers to take care of the local bodies and even our collector and other officers are engaged in the same exercise to identity the officers to hand over the responsibilities."
