AP Govt mulls immigration centre to help youth get jobs abroad says Minister Mekapati Gautam Reddy
Tadepalli: An international immigration centre would be established to facilitate the youth from the State to get job opportunities in foreign countries, said Minister for Industries Mekapati Gautam Reddy while addressing online the 23rd board meeting of the Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh (OMCAP) at the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation office here as its chairman on Tuesday.
Dr Arja Srikanth, managing director of OMCAP, informed the minister that over 2,000 youths were provided employment in various countries through OMCAP during 2019-20. He said that due to the outbreak of pandemic, the training programmes were undertaken satisfactorily. According to him, more than 2,000 vacancies in the posts like housekeeping, chefs, electricians, nurses, forklift operators, and others are ready to be filled in various countries. "Once the conditions returned to normalcy, the training programmes would be undertaken," he said.
Dr Srikanth said that over 1,000 nurse posts are vacant in Germany and efforts were on to sign a memorandum of understanding with the German firm Medizin Park, Rhein-Ruhr AG Company to send the qualified nurses there. He said that the prospective candidates would be trained in German language from January to make them eligible to work in Germany.
The minister was also informed that local employment support programme was undertaken by OMCAP and APSSDC for the persons who could not go abroad due to the Covid-19. Employment would be provided to the persons who get registered in the programme.
The officials said that OMCAP had become a partner in the Indian International Skills Centre started by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). As part of the programme, the NSDC would gather information about the job opportunities in various countries and forwarded the same to the OMCAP.
It has been proposed to set up international migration centre with branches throughout the State to provide information to the unemployed youth.
Special chief secretary of Skill Development department G Anantaramu, OMCAP general manager Dr KV Swamy, secretary Pawan Kumar were also present.
