The government of Andhra Pradesh has issued orders to implement 4% reservation for persons with disabilities in job recruitments and promotions. The GO was released by the department of women, children, disabled and senior citizens with dated February 19, 2020.

The new GO includes persons with autism, mental disorders, multiple disabilities and people with intellectual disabilities in the reservation categories, thereby providing scope for employment to hundreds of people suffering from various kinds of disabilities.

If there is any government department where the candidate is unable to work due to the severity of the disability, the relevant department may exclude the reservation by providing a clear reason. However, the govt stated exemption depends on the final decision of the Inter-Departmental Committee.

The Committee is chaired by the Principal Secretary / Secretary to the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare and the Secretary to the Government. On the other hand, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced that it will amend the Rules of Employees' Service Rules 1996.

The reservations for disabilities in jobs and promotions have been in effect since 2011 and however, in 2016, the centre increased it by 4 per cent. The government of Andhra Pradesh also decided to implement it.
