Anti-human trafficking club opens at Maris Stella College: Collector Mohammad Imtiaz

Vijayawada: District Collector Mohammad Imtiaz has stressed on the importance of having knowledge on human trafficking which is a serious problem worldwide. He participated as the chief guest in the 71st World Human Rights Day celebrations at Maris Stella College here on Tuesday.

Social Work and History & Tourism departments of the college along with International Justice Mission established a club on anti-human trafficking on the college premises. The club was inaugurated by the Collector and Vasireddy Padma, Chairperson, AP Mahila Commission. A logo was also released on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Imtiaz suggested the students to enjoy human rights. All must know their rights and should not dominate the people basing on race, caste, religion. Girls should be courageous and should not lose confidence and should come forward to bring peace and joy in the world.

Vasireddy Padma, in her speech, appreciated the steps taken by the college authorities to discuss about human rights, poverty. Unemployment and illiteracy are the main causes for human trafficking, she opined. Human trafficking can be resolved only when all the people in society are involved, she added.

Dr Sr Jasintha Quadras, Principal, Harshavaradhan Deputy Commissioner of Police, Raj Kumar, advocate, Madras High Court, Gladis, Alice Sukanya, International Justice Mission, R Suez, director, AP Mahila Commission, Balakrishna, Sneha, Akhil - Chennai, Fr Thomas Social Service centre, Correspondent and others were present.
