Amaravati: People's representatives at grassroots best equipped to tackle Covid-19

Amaravati: Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Peddyreddy Ramachandra Reddy here on Monday stressed the need to have elected local bodies at the grassroots to tackle coronavirus. Tackling coronavirus required social action in the form of advocacy, awareness and community activity, besides individual care and personal hygiene.

The support extended by the elected representatives would strengthen the efforts by the officials in tackling the virus, he said. He was reactingtothe postponement of local body elections.

He asserted that the elected representatives at the grassroots level can identify cases of coronavirus and effectively persuade them to self-isolate. All the elected representatives can lend their help in this regard, he said. The Village Sarpanches know each and every person in their respective villages, he said.
