50 houses destroyed in fire accident in West Godavari district

Tanuku: A massive fire broke out at Mallikasulapet in Tanuku town of West Godavari district on Sunday. In the incident, nearly 50 houses were destroyed in a fire accident.

There were no casualties reported as most of the residents went to the church. With the intensity of the fire, gas cylinders exploded in many homes, which were built in a small area near the railway gate and national highway bridge here in the town.

On receiving the information, the firefighters reached the spot and tried to put off the fire. As the fire vehicles can't enter the narrow area, the fire engines sprayed the water from the above bridge of the national highway. As the fire was not able to control, the firefighters from Tadepalligudem, Attili, and Elure reached the spot and put off the fire.

Over the incident, Tehsildar Prasad reached the spot along with his team and interacted with the victims and assured them to provide support from the government. He said that 10 kgs rice and Rs 5,000 would be given as an immediate relief to the victims.

Tanuku Municipal Commissioner G Sambasiva Rao dispatched three water tanks to control the flames. Municipal staff also participated in the relief works. CPI leader PV Pratap demanded the government to provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to each family who lost everything in the fire accident.
