4,396 candidates clear Agama priests exams: Velampalli Srinivas
Amaravati: Endowments Minister Velampalli Srinivas on Thursday released the results of Agama priests' exam conducted on July 13-4 at Secretariat. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that 4,396 candidates qualified in the exam out of 5,176 candidates appeared for it.
Among the qualified, 2,000 secured first class marks, followed by 1,156 got second class and 247 candidates secured third class. Over 993 members qualified in oral and practical tests and 743 members failed in the exam.
The overall pass percentage is 84.93 and those who want to opt for recounting, can apply by November 25 at Endowments department Commissioner's office, said the minister.
Deputy Speaker Kona Raghupathi said the government would fulfill all promises made in the election manifesto and resolve the problems of priests.
It is a good sign that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy responded positively on the problems of priests and instructed the Endowment's department staff to issue a GO on inheritance of priesthood.
MLA Malladhi Vishnu hailed the government for conducting the exams within two months and releasing the results speedily. He also congratulated the qualified priests in the examinations.
Endowment's Commissioner Padma said that the exams have been conducted transparently without giving room for corruption. Andhra Pradesh Priest Association Chairman Kamesh Sharma also participated in the programme.
