2 new flyovers proposed in Nellore to ease traffic woes
Nellore: The district administration proposed two flyovers in the city freshly at Muthukur Road Junction on the Mini Bypass Road and also at KVR Petrol Bunk Junction on the Grand Trunk Road between Ayyappa Temple and VR College for relieving traffic woes. Municipal Administration Minister Dr P Anil Kumar directed the officials to prepare estimates for submitting the same to the government.
The city has been experiencing huge traffic congestions as there are only a few passages connecting east and west parts of the city which is divided by railway track. Commuters can travel freely from the flyover at Ayyappa temple and also through railway under bridges at Magunta Layout and Ramalingapuram. They face difficulties at BV Nagar and also at Kondayapalem manned railway crossings.
Though the Centre had provided its share of the estimated budget for bridges at Kondayapalem and BV Nagar, they are incomplete due to lack of support from the state government.
The railway under bridges at Ramalinga Puram and Atmakur Bus Stand are congested as they were constructed long back. Water stagnates during heavy rains and the movement of vehicles is obstructed. Though the city has been fast expanding the basic amenities have not been resolved for many decades.
The civic officials are now implementing one-way from petrol pump located at the VRC Centre up to Vijaya Mahal Gate for controlling the traffic. They also planned to arrange paid parking slots on the way.
There were plans for Outer Ring Road for the city, but there was no progress due to lack of political will.
Now, the YSR Congress government proposed to construct two flyovers in the city. They proposed a 1.5 km long flyover at Muthukur Road and the officials verified the feasibility and land acquisition problems. Another one at Magunta statue and the Mini Bypass Road.
